20" x 16" acrylic impasto on canvas. July 2005. From a photograph I took on honeymoon in Crete. I liked the contrast between the warm and cool colours, and between the still and moving water.
I first created an impasto by applying a heavy structure gel with a palette knife, then painted in a more detailed style over the top using bristle and sable brushes. The resulting painting is therefore not only detailed, but also very richlytextured - the paint protrudes out of the canvas. |
