20" x 16" acrylic impasto on canvas. October 2005. An abstract design loosly based on a close-up view of part of a rockface in Dunmore Caves. and the wake of a ship. The two elements were chosen as the caves were cut by water, and for the contrasting colours.
I first created an impasto by applying a heavy structure gel with a palette knife, then painted in a more detailed style over the top using bristle and sable brushes. The resulting painting is therefore not only detailed, but also very heavily textured - the paint protrudes out of the canvas. |
